Their business is creating furniture designs of exceptional style, value and beauty. Magnussen produces these designs in partnership with their manufacturing partners around the world that meet exacting standards for superior quality at the best possible value.

Even as the company has grown larger, the principles of a family-run business -- trust, honesty and respect -- continue to be its foundation. The company was founded in 1931 by Ingwer Magnussen. A cabinetmaker by trade and a craftsman and businessman by heart, Ingwer took the bold initiative to start his own business in Kitchener, Ontario, when he was unable to find work during the 1930s depression. He beautifully and intricately carved show wood for sofa frames for upholstery manufacturers and his business grew into a good-sized company serving Canada.
Richard Magnussen, Ingwer's son, joined the company in 1970 at the age of 20. Richard steered the company's focus on expansion and growth, enabling Magnussen Furniture to become Canada's largest supplier of occasional tables. In 1986, Richard founded Presidential Furniture, a division of Magnussen Furniture, to serve the U.S. market. In 1986, the company began trading as Magnussen-Presidential Furniture, which became one of the most progressive occasional furniture suppliers in North America. With an eye to detail and an understanding of the worth of exclusive designs, Richard built relationships with international manufacturers from around the world and tapped a huge growth opportunity. Magnussen-Presidential Furniture began importing from the Orient a decade before fashion trends and design styles in the furniture business made it in vogue to do so.
In 2002, Magnussen-Presidential Furniture became Magnussen Home. The addition of "Home" reflects what Magnussen offers as a company -- fine furniture, designed and created by a family of craftsmen from around the world, to fill the most important rooms in your home.

Comments about Magnussen Furniture Ashby Dresser with Optional Landscape Mirror:
We have this dresser in our bedroom and it is quite impressive in its size and design. However, the workmanship is very poor for the money spent. The little legs on this heavy dresser are only bolted onto small corner braces on the bottom. The doors do not line up on the front, one is lower than the other. The left front leg brace was broken and the leg fell off immediately after the delivery people left. Although it looks very nice, close examination shows that it was poorly constructed. It does have french dovetailing in the front of the drawers but the back of the drawers do not have the claimed english dovetailing. The drawers do not have ballbearing rails and rollers. They merely sit on a wood rail in the center of the underside of the drawer. I would not buy this dresser again. I was very disappointed with the construction. It is something that I would expect to see on a cheap piece of pine furniture.
Service and delivery comments:
Delivery was prompt. However, they bolted the small legs onto this heavy dresser and then left. That was when we discovered that the front left leg was broken. The leg was being held in place by the weight of the dresser alone. The delivery people had to have known this. As soon as we moved the dresser the leg fell off. We were very disgusted since this was an expensive dresser. We had to put the dresser on its back and remove the small screws from the broken brace. We then glued it back together and used larger screws to secure it. Only then could we bolt the leg into place. The delivery people deliberately concealed this without a doubt!
